Hi all!
It’s been some time since I last posted, so I’d like to share some news about the novel with you. Much like the One Ring in J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, as I continue to delve deeper into this story, it is becoming apparent to me that the Darkstone is, itself, becoming an organic entity, exerting its will on everything around it and shaping the passage of events. Because of this, it has become clear in my mind that, for this novel, there really can be no other title than Darkstone.
Another reality I have come to accepts is that, in 13 chapters, I have barely scratched the surface of the underlying history of the Darkstone and the Light Weavers, let alone bring resolution to the events that are now set in motion. For this reason I’ve come to the conclusion that the story in my head is far too large for just one book, so I’m committing to at least a trilogy to see this thing through to its end. It is an ambitious project, I know, but my characters become more natural extensions of my personality with every chapter and it would sadden me to not give them the thorough development and exploration they deserve.
Lastly, many people around me keep expressing the desire to read “the next big series” in fictional literature. Over the past decade, we’ve seen many notable series emerge, garnering the adoration of countless fans. The most notable of which, in my mind, have been J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga. Both of these have served as inspiration and example to me in my journey, thus far, and I am quite humbled to say my writing has prompted numerous comparisons to them. It is my intent to take the, now edited, 13 chapters I have completed thus far and seek out interest from potential publishers. Stephenie Meyer’s story, in particular, has emboldened me in this decision, having written Twilight without any expectations and having submitted it to her, now current publisher, Little – Brown at the goading of family and friends. Like her then, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain in doing this, so I step forth, like Gray, Krista, and their kin, hoping this story can find the light of day.
Thanks for reading,
Nick
